Growing up on an Alberta farm with her parents and siblings, Mom would reminisce about the good ole days. She often spoke of the family togetherness, in that little house up on the hill. Walking to school, (Up hill. -both ways!). Chores were ever present and the need to tend to livestock, garden and firewood (which led to an axed off finger!)
Mom caught Dad's eye (but Mom fell in love with Dad's eyes) at a Christmas Queen Pageant dance which led to an engagement at Easter, a marriage at harvest and their honeymoon on a swather. Saskatchewan was now her home.
Mom enjoyed her farm life but very much loved her teaching career. She taught at Whitecourt School, Innisfree School, Aylsham School, Nipawin Busy Bee Preschool and Franko Hall Sunday School.
Mom was a prolific writer. She wrote hundreds of poems, and short stories, of which many were published in books, and some used in schools, but the most important ones were bundled up and given to her children at Christmas.
Dad and Mom retired from the farm after 55 years and became residents of Parkland, Nirvana and Caskey in Melfort. Here they could be together, reminisce about their lives and make friendships with staff and residents.
Mom has touched all of us and will be dearly missed.
The farm and construction business was always a beehive of activity filled with busy days that went by quickly. Leading to one of her poems:
“In my lovely apartment watching days go by.
As I was told so many years ago -“You think it’s the days going by my child. It’s your life going by.”
Memories.
-All those days gone by...as my life goes by, each day, so precious and so important.🙂
SO TRUE! SO TRUE!” Joan Zwozdesky January 1st, 2019
