• ev was born September 11, 1948 in Carman, Manitoba. She moved to London, England with her mother, older sister and twin brother to take care of her ill grandmother, while her father stayed in Canada. While in London, the family witnessed the Queen’s coronation, which Bev spoke about often. She later resided in Geraldton, Ontario and then Manitouwadge, Ontario as her father worked in various hard rock mines. The Hess family moved to Saskatchewan, her father’s home province, when he accepted a job at the potash mine. Bev finished her schooling in Saskatoon and took courses to become an LPN.  Shortly after she earned her diploma, she met the love of her life, Jim. Bev and Jim were married on June 20, 1970, a year to the day they met.

Bev and Jim moved to Medstead and began their journey of parenthood. At the arrival of their firstborn, Lynne, Bev found her true calling of motherhood. After a short six months, Bev began working as a dedicated nurse at the Spiritwood Hospital. They expanded their family three years later and lovingly welcomed Brenda. Another move took them to Arborfield, where they completed their family with the birth of Janice.

Bev had a passion for helping seniors and became the Activity Director at the Arborfield care home. After a transition to Nipawin, she worked the receptionist desk at the Doctor’s office and then ended her career focusing on helping others in the community through homecare. Her desire to help, care, and nurture others was evident throughout her career.  Her passion was helping senior citizens and often drove people to appointments or to simply get ice cream and be a friend.

With a heart of gold, Bev was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always caring for her family. She was the biggest cheerleader for her daughters’ sporting events and drama productions. She was very proud of her girls. As much as Bev loved being a mom, she adored being a grandma to Brenda’s daughter, Siobhan. Going for drives, giggling at tv shows, and having ice cream with Siobhan were special moments in Bev’s life.

Over the years, Bev enjoyed traveling to British Colombia. She visited her parents in Courtenay, BC, where she enjoyed combing the beaches for seashells. Once Lynne moved out to British Colombia, she treasured her trips visiting Lynne and Jodie in Vancouver always admiring the mountains and ocean.
Bev cherished her relationships with clients and co-workers through homecare. She developed special friendships with Sandy and Donna and always looked forward to their visits. In recent years, she reconnected with Carol, a long-lost cousin from over the pond. Carol traveled to Nipawin with Bev’s younger brother, Russ in 2016. That trip held a very special place in Bev’s heart.

Her kind heart extended far beyond caring for people as she passionately loved animals of all kinds.

A thank you is extended to the nurses and aides that cared for mom with compassion and kindness at Pineview Lodge and the Nipawin Hospital.

Bev had an easier time offering help than accepting help – always putting others ahead of herself. She always offered a helping hand, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. She was patient, kind, generous and loving. We will remember her last words expressed to her husband, “love you”. She was held by family in her final days here on earth.

Bev is survived by Jim, her husband of 52 years, daughters
Lynne (Jodie), Brenda, and Janice (Brian), granddaughter Siobhan, brother-in-law Ed, sister-in-laws Margaret and Phyllis and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father Russell “Bud” Hess mother Dorothy, twin brother Chris, sister Carol, baby brother Russ, her father and mother-in-law John and Elsie Kulpa, brother-in-laws Mike, Elmer, and Jim, and sister-in-law Celia.

We will picture her child-like grin, the twinkle in her eye, and feel her warm loving hugs. Mom will be in our hearts forever. We love you.
