Darcy had happy childhood memories of playing and learning from the land he loved. From a young age Darcy was an avid outdoorsman; he hunted, fished and trapped off the land He was a crack shot and won many competitions at the local gun club. He was a junior trapper, and he received an award for trapping the largest beaver in North America by Dominion Zudack, a popular fur trading company out of Alberta at that time. He would skin and stretch his own animals. He enjoyed the life in our town of Gillam for many years. He would spend countless hours in the bush that surrounded our childhood home and he was at his best in the bush or on the boat. His Dad was always in fear of which animal he would catch and bring home next.
As a young man during a visit to Nelson House, he met special friend Elma Wood. Darcy and Elma had a daughter together they named Jasmine, true to her name; beautiful, with her black hair and her big sparkling eyes (miskisik). She was a loving daughter to the end.
Darcy followed his parents when they retired to Cumberland House, Saskatchewan. Being so comfortable on the land Cumberland was another oasis of wildlife and outdoor living which Darcy excelled at. Many nights his dad and Mork would go and find him on the lake all hours of the night, the fishing being too good to leave.
